02nd September 2010
The next Seaside Neighbourhood Panel Meeting will take place on 08th September 2010.
13th May 2009
The Seaside Neighbourhood Panel has now been in place since the spring of 2009. Currently, it meets at 7pm on the second Wednesday of alternate months (January, March, May, July, September, November) in the Church Hall behind St Agnes Church, Whitley Road. The panel is chaired by local resident, Jane Dubery and is in need of a volunteer to take notes at the meetings and to type them up.
The panel covers part of the Devonshire Ward and is a long narrow strip of Eastbourne from Bourne Street to the Tesco/Staples Roundabout. From Bourne Street to Whitley Road it includes the roads between the seafront and the railway line. From Whitley Road to the roundabout it includes the roads south of Seaside. The eastern boundary is the stretch of Lottbridge Drove from Staples to the seafront.
During the last year priorities have included
- Cycling on pavements particularly along Seaside and Whitley Road.
- Street drinking
- Drug dealing
- Parking on pavements
- Rubbish in alleyways
- Dog fouling
Action by the police team and, where appropriate, by council departments has resulted in improvement. Some of the issues are very specific and intensive action by the police has solved them but others come up repeatedly so are reprioritized.
The panel covers a diverse area from the town centre to the open areas of the beach and Princes Park so the problems can be quite different between the two ends of the area. However the panel tries to address everybody’s concerns and has prioritised issues that affect just one or two people, such as illegal parking in specific places, as well as issues that affect the whole area, such as cycling on pavements.
All residents in the area are welcome to attend meetings but if the time or place aren’t right for you email your concerns to the chairman using the link in the green button on the right. The eastern end of Devonshire ward nearer to Princess Park is underrepresented in the group so residents from this are particularly welcome.
Devonshire Action Plan
Introduction In 2005 the Devonshire Ward Area Profile was published as a result of an initiative by the Eastbourne Strategic Partnership. This involved a large community consultation exercise together with a bringing together of factual data on the ward drawn from a number of different sources.
The profile described considerable areas of deprivation and need. The report led to the creation of the Devonshire Project, a coordinated strategy which involved key partners from the statutory sector together with other interested parties, most importantly the community itself.
The link below will take you to a report of what the Plan has achieved so far and what is currently planned.
